CBW Events Start Date

The date of 1 January 1946 for the start of the chronology dataset has been chosen because it is of significance in the international legal framework for declaring and monitoring certain activities relevant to the subject matter being studied.

For example, it is the date from which certain activities have to be declared under the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention. It is also the date from which certain other activities can be declared under the Confidence-Building Measures system established under the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention.
